Citing innovation, collaboration and creativity, Metro recently presented Nestlé Canada with its 2012 Grocery Vendor of the Year award at the Metro Ontario annual golf tournament.

The Nestlé Canada Metro Ontario team was recognized for exceptional knowledge of market trends and opportunities with a focus on the overall food category versus Nestlé brands exclusively. The team brought powerful innovations to market that delivered on Metro and Nestlé Canada’s mutual sales and profit plan, and swiftly collaborated with Metro’s business needs allowing for the organizations to develop a long-term winning strategy together.

“Nestlé Canada was able to grow sales in a profitable manner with their strong brands, product innovation, excellent planning, and superior service levels,” said Sal Galle, Director Merchandising, Food Basics. “We challenged the team with a major initiative for our frozen food category which entailed relining all our 267 Metro and Food Basics stores, and they nailed it.”

The Grocery Vendor of the Year award is given to a vendor that achieves the highest overall score in category management expertise, business development support, vendor representation, business sales growth, new initiatives, innovation and supply chain proficiency. Each year senior managers and directors of the Metro Inventory Management and Grocery Category teams in the Discount and Conventional grocery channel evaluate an extensive list of vendors.

“We’re very proud of the Metro Ontario team for this amazing accomplishment,” said Shelley Martin, President and CEO, Nestlé Canada. “Receiving this award demonstrates their ability to understand what is important to Metro and Nestlé - working to find common ground and addressing issues with integrity, tenacity and a winning spirit. This award is a proud achievement for our team and one we look forward to building upon in the future.”
