Local Nestlé ice cream factory set to increase production capabilities with latest expansion plans

Back to Press releases

Nestlé Canada today announced an investment of $41.3 million to increase production capabilities at its London Ice Cream factory on Wilton Grove Road. The factory, which supplies all of Canada with brands like Hӓagen-Dazs, Real Dairy and Drumstick, has seen increased growth within the category, resulting in greater production demands. This expansion builds on the $50 million investment in 2018. Ground-breaking is scheduled for September and the project is expected to be completed by 2023.

“We are honoured to be part of the London community for over 50 years and thrilled to make this significant investment which is truly a testament to our support for our people,” says Jayne Payette, President, Ice Cream at Nestlé Canada. “We have over 800 dedicated employees who are working hard every day at our Ice Cream factory to manufacture Canada’s most beloved ice cream brands.  This investment allows us to bring even more exciting and innovative products to market and continue to meet consumer demand.”

“This is incredible news for the London region,” said Jeff Yurek, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London. “Nestlé is a strong member of London’s business community and I am proud to have their local leadership both as an employer and in environmental sustainability initiatives.”

The investment will create 88 new job opportunities at the factory. This expansion project will create two new production lines to generate more capacity for future growth, resulting in incremental ingredient, packaging, and raw material supplier purchases. Nestlé Canada is proud to be one of the largest purchasers of Canadian dairy for its extensive portfolio of market leading products. In 2020, over $45M worth of dairy was purchased locally.

At Nestlé, giving back and doing more in local communities is a priority. Over the last eighteen months, Nestlé Canada has shown its support for its communities and partners, including The London Health Sciences Centre, donating more than $135K of food products and over $276K worth of hand sanitizers. To celebrate this investment and thank the local community, the London Ice Cream Factory will donate over 5,000 ice cream products and coupons to local first responders and healthcare frontline workers. In addition, a monetary donation will be made to the London Food Bank.

Expansion on the London facility began in early 2016 with reconfiguration and consolidation of production lines to increase its capacity and flexibility. This new investment will see an increase to the factory’s current footprint by over 26,600 square feet which will create additional buildings, increased refrigeration capacity and other services to support the new capacity.
