Reducing emissions and cutting waste

Nestle celebrates Earth Day 2016

The signing of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, committing countries to work to combat global warming, coincides this year with Earth Day.

Nestlé is proud to support both efforts through our commitments. We’re working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, cut waste and increase the use of renewable energy across our business.

Globally, we’ve reduced our energy consumption per ton of product by 29% over the last 10 years.

At Nestlé Canada, we are dedicated to improving the environmental sustainability of our operations. Since 2010, we’ve significantly reduced our environmental footprint and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 10 per cent. As of 2015, we’ve achieved zero waste-to-landfill in three Ontario-based factories: our ice cream factory in London, chocolate factory in Toronto, and food service factory in Trenton. And Nestlé Purina recently announced that five of its factories in North America, including the Canadian plant food in Mississauga, have achieved zero waste to landfill status.

We are continuing to focus on reducing our environmental footprint and remain committed to protecting the future of the planet by:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 35 per cent by 2020
  • Reducing water usage in all its operations by 35 per cent by 2020
  • Achieving zero waste for disposal within its factories by 2020
