Community support during the COVID-19 Crisis

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, giving back to our local community partners remains a critical priority for us at Nestlé Canada. In challenging times such as these, we understand that our communities need our help more than ever.

While relief and response efforts are happening quickly all over the world and demand for support remains crucial, we’re proud to share our support for Canadians in 2021.

Nestlé Canada has committed over $3.6 million in cash and product donations and below are just a few key areas of support:

  • Support of Food Banks Canada, our national partner, with over $190K in monetary support and over $500k in product donations. Food banks are on the frontlines doing critical work ensuring that all Canadians can access food. They are facing funding shortages and a loss of volunteers that they desperately rely on due to social distancing guidelines

  • Support to local community groups and shelters – valued at over $920K

  • In particular, support to Project Food Chain – a small volunteer-run Canadian organization that ensures seven shelters and 41 drop-in centres are funded and fed for the entire Downtown Toronto area

  • Support for our frontline workers with a value of $230K and 10 hospitals across Canada to bring joy and thanks to the workers

  • In particular, support for Nurses Week in May across a number of hospitals in Toronto – we sent confectionery treats to over 20,000 nurses to thank them for their dedication during these extremely challenging times

  • Support to the London, Ontario area (home of the Nestlé Canada Ice Cream Factory) – where we recently made a monetary donation to the London Food Bank and dropped off coupons to local Paramedics, Police Station and a Long-Term Care facility

  • Donation of over $150k worth of hand sanitizer to our local partners, including the Middlesex-London Paramedic Services, along with 10 of our transportation vendors (Fluke Transport, Maritime Ontario, Pride Logistics, Versacold Transportation Services, Fuel Transport, Simard, IFS, Beacon Transportation, Erb & Lightspeed).

  • Support for the Canadian Red Cross – with over $20k donated through employee matching and corporate funds to support the organization during key moments of crisis support across Canada (in particular, British Columbia)

  • Employee led campaign and donation to Kids Help Phone – a national partner that provides 24/7/365 e-mental health solutions and support to young people across Canada. We participated in the Dance + More for Tomorrow Campaign to encourage Canadians to get up and show their support through dance/fun. Employees raised over $40k to support Kids Help Phone in 2021.

  • An additional employee-led campaign with the United Way raised over $10k to secure food resources, affordable housing, emergency shelters, skills development programs and created more opportunities to help individuals and families in our community.

As an organization, we are working closely with our community non-profit partners to ensure they are supported during this time and anticipate that our response efforts will continue to evolve.

We also want to thank our employees – who are at the heart of our organization – and who have worked tirelessly to ensure that our products continue to be available to Canadians. Our teams have come together with speed and agility to ensure measures are in place to enhance the safety and wellness in all our operations and manufacturing practices, and we could not be prouder. Employees have also made significant contributions both with monetary donations and providing ongoing support to local community partners with product donations.

In these times of need, we are prioritizing support and care for those who need it most. We remain dedicated to our Purpose of enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future, for individuals and families, for our thriving and resilient communities, and for our planet.
