Nestlé Waters Canada operates one factory in Hope, B.C. that uses water only from one source – the Kawkawa Lake aquifer. In total, we withdraw less than 1% of the available groundwater in the Kawkawa Lake aquifer.

We have taken a number of steps to conserve water in our bottled water operations in Hope, so it now takes us slightly less than 1.2 litres of water to produce one litre of drinking water today. By comparison, it takes three litres of water to produce one litre of soft drinks; 42 litres of water to produce one litre of beer; 183 litres of water to produce one 8-ounce (236 millilitres) glass of milk; and 148,000 litres of water to manufacture an automobile.

Every year we publicly release a hydrologic monitoring report on our water withdrawals and monitoring data. We monitor our groundwater levels as well as associated water resource indicators such as aquifer levels, spring flow, surface water levels and aquatic indicators. This is filed annually with the District of Hope in British Columbia and is publicly available by request from Nestlé Waters Canada. These reports conclude that Nestlé Waters Canada has had no material impact on the Kawkawa groundwater aquifer in the 15-year history of its operations.
