Nestlé, TerraCycle and Cineplex introduce a new upcycling program across the GTA

Dec 21, 2011

Five GTA Cineplex Entertainment (Cineplex) theatres have recently launched the first ever chocolate and candy wrapper recycling program in Canadian movie theatres. Thanks to a partnership between Nestlé Canada, Cineplex and TerraCycle, movie lovers will now be able to keep their wrappers out of landfills, as Cineplex will send them to TerraCycle for upcycling into innovative eco-products.

Look for the TerraCycle collection boxes at five Cineplex theatres in the GTA, including SilverCity Yorkdale, Cineplex Odeon Varsity, Scotiabank Theatre Toronto, Cineplex Odeon Queensway and SilverCity Richmond Hill.

To further celebrate the launch of this program, TerraCycle is offering an added bonus to its Nestlé Chocolate Wrapper Brigade® members. Participants who enclose Cineplex Tickets with their chocolate wrapper shipment will receive an extra 500 bonus points awarded to their account. TerraCycle points can be redeemed for cash donations to the participant’s designated charity, or assigned to various other charitable gifts available in the program.

In October 2010, Nestlé Canada and TerraCycle collaborated to create the first Chocolate Wrapper Brigade in Canada.  The Chocolate Wrapper Brigade is a free program that pays schools and non-profits to collect used chocolate bar wrappers for upcycling into eco-friendly items such as tote bags, kites, backpacks and more. For each wrapper returned through the program, Nestlé and TerraCycle pay two cents to a school or charity of the collector’s choice.
